Due to a thumb injury I was finding it increasingly painful using thumb shifters. Considering I ride 3 bikes regularly, two of which have the same shimano 9 speed gears, it was quite a big decision to convert all 3 to grip shifters on the chance it would help. It turned out to be a good decision, shifting gear is now painless and the process of swapping shifters was as simple as pulling the old inner cable out of its outer and sliding the new inner through the old outer and clamping it in place.
